What a creation!  For those unfamiliar with Raku pottery, clay is heated rapidly to a very high temperature, then cooled quickly, often in combustible materials, which creates the grey base and back.  Multiple metallic glazes are used to create the ancient coloration effect which is seen on this pin.  If you look carefully, you can see the coppery hues to the left, along with blues and greens--what you can't see is the subtle shine of these glazes as they reflect light--it simply doesn't photograph well.

This pin is vintage, with classic smoke colored back and small bits of it in the petroglyph design.  Considerable expertise went into the making of the pin as the stress to the clay in raku style firing is great and often pieces crack or crumble.  This is particularly true with this thin, hand-formed clay.
